steering wheel controls and aftermarket headunits
I really want to install an aftermarket headunit but I don't want to lose the use of my steering wheel controls. I saw a car listed on ebay that said it had an adapter and I was just wondering if anybody else has done/hear of this.

Yes, adaptors are available. You will first need a HU with a wireless IR remote. The adaptor "learns" the remote signals and sends them when you push the steering wheel controls. There is a couple of members that already have this set-up.

Here'* what it is:

I believe that there is more than one manufacturer of this type of product. I'm sure any local audioshop will stock them or try Crutchfield for mail order.

What type of headunit are you looking at?
I had a Kenwood installed in my 91, and I used one of those IR units for my steering wheel controls... works great

I would like to get my steering wheel controls back too so if I bought this adapter, where do I install it at? That might be a dumb question but if I have to install it where my HU is at, there'* no way it would fit.

I'm thinking of going with a pioneer. I've had the same one for 6 years and 4 different vehicles, the last one being the girlfriend'*. I just really like that kind of reliabilty.
