Wouldn't there be a point at which too large of a diameter of wire would decrease conductivity because of resistance (if longer length with same diameter means greater resistance from the wire, wouldn't increased diameter over a shorter length do the same?) and the idea that there will be too many options for just a few electrons to travel through?

Doing some searching on a couple car audio forums, it seems that with 100 watts RMS most people recommend 14 - 16 gauge wire for the speakers. No point in going any lower then that.

I personally think 16 would work perfectly fine and 14 is a bit overkill, but in the end I would go with whatever was easier to find or cheaper to get for the same quality.

I believe I made a chart of colors for someone else and posted it on the forum... will have to dig and look. Even if I do find it though, my wiring is probably different colors than yours...

When I did mine I had two harnesses in my factory amp which was mounted to the back of the pillars behind the seats. One harness had 4 channels coming in from the stock radio, the other had 8 pairs of wires going out. The amp split the 4 channels into front left and right tweeters and driver, and rear left and right driver and sub (the 6x9 being the sub). So I did the battery trick on the bigger harness to figure out which pairs went to which speakers.

EDIT** Found the chart, here you go. I had these wires, each went to it'* own speaker. I didn't mark down which went to which speaker, but atleast if your wiring matches mine you will knows which wires are pairs.

mouse skin effect is for rf and higher frequency, the higher the frequency the more the electrons tend to move outward. audio frequency is well below having anything to do with it.

diameter always decreases resistance and length increases resistance, just because there is extra path doesnt mean anything. thats why you are able to use large copper plates and pipes for conductors or connections. i would agree with crash on the size it needs and the gm stuff i would guess is smaller than 20
