I want to upgrade my stereo in my 1987 Delta 88
My '87 Olds Delta 88 has its original radio/cassette player and I want to replace it with something more up to date.
I want a system that will ideally go straight in when I take the old unit out that has the following features;
CD player,
MP3 enabled,
Station presets,
This is a tricky one, in the UK radio bands have a different bandwidth separation than the USA, I have noticed some aftermarket systems let you choose which one to use before installing it.
The hole for the radio is not standard DIN or 2DIN, but kind of in between, is it a unique GM size?.
I don't want ear bleeding volume levels, my gf and I prefer classical, golden oldie, and talk radio most of the time - guess I'm showing my age!.
Where would be a good place to start looking for these requirements, most of the audio guys round here just want to sell me something that shatter concrete from 100 yards and want to cut up the dash as well.

that is a standard size gm used alot of times referred to as 1.5 din, there are adapters to 1din and wireing adapters all over around here, probably on the net. but for the uk freqs i dont know. i wanted the same things as you for my yukon and i got a sony hd radio , with usb input, cd, mp3, ipod, etc. for $130 from crutchfield.com and they send you all required adapters to fit your car for free. maybe they have a place like that in the uk.

Thanks JW, for the useful links you posted. Guess I'll fabricate my own adapter, mention 1.5 DIN over here and they look at you like you just landed in a spaceship!.
I will get an adapter next time I visit the US and put a European compatible unit in.
