Help with upgrading factory system.
I am thinking about replacing the front speakers. What brand are inexpensive but good for the money? Pioneer, Sony, etc. I would like to do the two front doors for under $30 if possible. I am going to need tweeters also since my SE didn't come with any.
Here are a few I found on ebay.

I am also thinking about putting some 5 1/4 in the rear doors and mounting some 8"* or 10"* in the rear deck. If I do this I will have a toggle switch to turn the rear deck speakers on and off (I don't think my kids would like the bass in their ears).

Not a bad car, for an SE..
I would stay away from Sony, you will have problems with them. Two friends of mine used Sony XPlode speakers, one set were in a van, the other in a Z34 and they both blew them only a few months after purchase. You should just get a good pair of comps for the doors, you won't regret it. Go with a set of Kappa 50.5cs, they are good. Go to www.ikesound.com and look around, you'll find alot of stuff you'll want to get...

Correct me if I am wrong.
The front doors are 5 1/4" for direct replacement and I will have to pull the door panels to replace the speakers.

A true component system will really allow you to customize your sound staging. Have all sounds come from the same direction, or same source you wont be able to really bring out the highs/mids. With a component system you can have your tweeters seperate from your mids/lows.

I am staying with the stock head unit if that matters at all. And mremer stated something about seperating highs and lows. Is that not what the crossover is for. To seperate the highs to the tweeters and the lows to the main speaker.
