Bonnevilles 2000-2005 all use the class 2 Data-bus system along with a ton of other GM vehicles.
How can you check ?
Pull the factory radio and checking to see if there is a ribbon cable on the back of the deck, if there is it'* a Data-bus system.
What does this mean for your aftermarket radio install ?
You can't just tap into those wires for power etc. because they are data, not regular power.
There is also a possability that the ignition harness in those cars could also be muti-plex (Data) just like in the newer Benz, Bmw etc.
If you don't buy the appropriate module or wiring harness, the following are the functions you will loose & more.....
-Chimes; door ajar, seat belt etc.
-Warnings; Low oil pressure, Low fuel, Hi-Temp, etc.
-Possibly of Air Bags not functioning
-Partial Diagnostic Loss
-RAP (The radio will not stay on until you open the door) - Not 100% sure about this one.
The correct part number for your vehicle is GMC02
It is a module, Not a relocation harness like is availble for other GM'*.
This part is available from Best Buy etc.
If you want to find out more info go to this link:

If I were you, I would spend the money and bite the bullet its better than loosing all those functions and screwing up your car.
Its not like your getting rid of the car or aren't going to spend money on other repairs down the road.
Just my opinion as a Installer,
Dutch

we have already discussed what will happen. you will loose chimes, and onstar, THATS IT
and about the RAP, obviously you will loose that since we covered the fact that there is no switched 12V at the harness.

Does the car in question have Class 2 Data-Bus ?
It should if it has OnStar.
If it does then he will loose more then what you mentioned.
The proof ?
Anyone who has not used either, the relocation harness or the module, when installing a head unit, into a vehicle that has the Data Bus system should count the number of times the Air Bag Light (SRS) flashes when they start the vehicle.
If it flashes 7 times you have dissabled more than what you think
Normally it flashes 4 times, not 7

wow! That is a pretty in depth group of posts Dutch. So other than the expensive harness what else do I need to buy as far as modules and for the antenna. I would like to keep my steering wheel controls too. The sad reality of this situation is, now I cant buy a 300 dollar deck but maybe one for about 200. The thing that bothers me more is that I can't find any more affordable decks with time control and anything better than a 3 band eq and a high volt output. The one I planned on buying has a 16 band with time control and a 5 volt pre out. Maybe I should just take it on the chin and put in my car what i really want
