2002 SSEi with Monsoon Question
#11
I have an 05 GXP with the monsoon, if you do a search on this forum for monsoon wiring you will find a link to crutchfield, where there is a wiring diagram for our stereo systems. I know in my factory set up, the 6X9'* are subs only, then full range for the rear door speakers, then mid range-mid bass for the front doors and a tweeter in the door pillars. These are powered and crossed over in the monsoon amp. I plan on replacing my factory stuff, putting all the speaker crossovers in the trunk or under the seat and use the factory wiring to the respective speaker location. I'd like to get some Alpine digital amps, they are made by "Rotel", a high end home audio company. I'd put them under the back seat, they generate very little heat. Anyway, there is my two cents.

Mouse, I absolutely hate dealing with premium sound systems. Lol! All installers do. It isnt intergrating an aftermarket head unit that is so bad, its bypassing the factory amp that we all hate. But it looks like someone did that work for you Lol!!! You got lucky! If I had your car(which by the way, I wish I did) I would just gut it and rewire the whole thing to an aftermarket head unit or I got a feeling you want to keep your factory radio(which is what most of you lucky gxp owning guys generally do) so, I would probably buy a good quality line out converter, a good aftermarket amp and replace all of the speakers. This would probably give you the best results. Keep me posted as now I am becoming very curious about this setup, and I feel a bit emotionally attached which in your case is a good thing! Lol! Keep me posted

Well I can't exactly keep the factory head unit, this is what is in there now:
Like I said, everything was bought this way, I didn't do any of it.
So what I have is this: After market head unit, factory speakers, and a by-passed amp.
What I want: Different head unit, after market speakers, amp, and a maybe a 10" Bazooka bass tube if the new speakers don't give me enough punch.
With that wiring stuff you already see there, would I HAVE to run new wire to get the best results, or could I leave it and let the installer hook that stuff up to the new amp? I'm trying to save a little bit of money by not running all new wires again.

Just use the wiring that is already installed. If you take it to a shop, it wont be anything out of the ordinary so you wont or at least shouldnt need to pay more. Dude please keep me posted on your progress and pics plz!!! I am very very excited for you and what to see it come out well
