window regulators
Hey gang, I guess I have officially joined the club. My front windows on both sides have ceased to exist.
I have a question about this, my windows won't roll down, the last time they worked, they worked fine. The passenger window went first about 3 months ago.
The drivers window worked fine last night on my way home from work.
My question is this could it be a bad switch?? or am I yet another victim of GM'* shoddy window regulators??
Thanks,
Tim

Hey 93 thanks for the reply, how could I locate the switches to replace them and how would I test them to see.
I have a haynes manual would the testing process be outlined in it??
Thanks again,
Tim

Tim, when you operate the power window switches for each window, do you hear a faint click inside the doors? I really don't think the switches have failed, they're input devices like the keys on a computer keyboard. If the rear windows operate then the power window breaker hasn't tripped. If the other features in the doors operate (power locks, power mirrors) the door modules are okay and getting power & ground. This would leave the regulators to be at fault.

Hey Mark, thanks for your reply. I wasn't hearing the click your were talking about. But one thing that leads me to believe it was the switch is the problem was only intermittent.
The day after I posted to topic every window I had started working again.
My father-in-law is a salesmen at a local lot and I got to use his discount and I bought a master switch and installed it and all my problems were solved. With the problem being intermittent do you still think the regulator is at fault?? I'm just sorta getting opinions on this matter so I can get ready for any trouble down the road know what I mean??
And I also just respect and value others comments who know more than I do.
(which is pretty much everyone).
Thanks again,
Tim

Tim, It sounds like you resolved the problem, good deal. Sometime when you get the chance with the windows up, car shut off, ignition "on", operate each one of the door switches in the "raise" position. You will hear a very faint click coming from inside the door that corresponds to the switch you are operating. That tells you that the door module is operating. Each door module switches power & ground to raise and lower the windows, operate the door locks, and operate the power mirrors. There is a 10a fuse for each door module in the rear fuse block. The power windows are supplied by one 30a breaker in the rear fuse block. All communications between the driver door module and the other 3 doors is through serial buses. Finally, we're all here to help one another. Thank you for your input.
