Over the weekend, I changed the trans fluid. It was a lot nastier than I thought once I got it draining. It always feels nastier as it runs up your arms and inside your shirt while you're laying on your back though!
I didn't have the balls to get at the shift modulator. The last time I opened up a transmission and played with it, I had to explain to my best friend'* dad that the 77 Buick Regal that his son just got from his grandmother that recently passed away needed a new transmission since I tried to install a shift kit and a handful of springs and ball bearings came falling out and we lost them down the gutter. (We thought it would be a great idea to park over a storm drain and just let the transmission fluid flow right down the drain. We lost three pan screws and about a half-dozen other parts that I didn't get a real good look at as they fell out when we took the valve body out.)
Now that I've changed the fluid, first to second is great. Second to third and third to fourth are great when I leave the house first thing in the morning. Once I drive about 15 minutes, second to third and third to fourth get pretty harsh. I'm getting whiplash!
I guess now I'll have to grow some nads and go back into the transmission.
Hey, if I fix this one i'll have a 500 batting average with transmissions!!
Eddie Wilson - if you're out there, you want to get some revenge by helping me work on my transmission?
