Screetching Noise
For the second time in about a month I've gotten this odd noise and i don't know where it'* coming from. It'* a high pitch loud screetching noise the changes pitch while it happens. Both times it has been raining and my wipers are on. The most recent time (5 minutes ago) I just pulled into the parking lot at work and put the car in park and then the noise happened. I opened the door to see if the noise was hearable outside and it deffinatly was. Also, the first time the noise happened I was stopped at a stop sign, don't know if that'* of any importance.
Anybody else have a similar problem?

That'* kind of hard to tell, but a start would be to take your accessory belt off and check the pullies for any screeching or abnormalities. It kind of sounds like you have a pully bearing going out or one is seizing up perhaps.

hmmm, never thought of that. There isn't any way the transmission could do that is there? I had noticed transmission stuff that I had posted earlier and thought maybe it'd be linked but I have no evidence that'd link the problems.

Since it was raining or wet when this happened............... That'* happened to me on 2 or 3 occasions when I drove through a large puddle. Its just the water splashing up into the belts and pullies and they screetch till they dry off. Nothing like that has ever happened on dry surfaces to me and nothing on my belts or pullies has been detected as being bad or defective.
If you have a bad bearing or pully I would think you'd get the same noise under dry driving conditions as well. Have you ever had it on those ocassions?

Nope, never on a dry occation. It makes sense what you said. I don't remember driving through large puddles though but it'* possible water got on the belt. The first occation I was exiting the highway and the second that happend yesterday was just city driving but I don't recall a large puddle. You're probably right though, it sounds like that'd do it. Both responses to my post have been about the belt and pullies so I'd think it'* something with that then. Couldn't be the wiper motor right?
