The service guy said that he thought it was a clip (now that I think about it). He indicated that he as seen this before.
If I dont get anywhere with GM warranty, I might take this apart (with help from all of you) and see if I can get at the clip and replace it and/or coat it so it will no longer rust.

I have a 2001 Bonneville SE. It is rusting along the front edge of the hood, on the top and bottom. I brought it to a dealer, and they said that there would be no warantee coverage for me. My mechanic said that it would cost 900 dollars to replace the hood, and that was really my only option, since trying to repair the hood would only result in more rust in the future. Needless to say, I'm not excited about having to cough up 900 bucks. I bought it used back in January of 2002. Any suggestions for me? I feel like Pontiac is doing bad things to me...

edit to say that the car has about 73,000 miles on it, if that should make any difference.

Any Bonneville SHOULD be constructed with dual sided galvanized steel and aluminum hood, roof and trunk lid...like mine is..
And no matter what, RUST CHECK and OIL COAT your car, metal will rust..a scratch a pock mark can lead to rusting....treat it before it gets out of hand...
But ya, 2 years is to soon for rust..visible rust

Don't the SE'* have aluminum hoods on them? I know for sure the SSEI'* have them, I've seen mine stripped bare (long story, bra horror) and there is NO steel on/in it. I don't see how it could rust, if it uses the same hood as my 2000 SSEI.
Does a magnet stick to your hood? (Check on the bottom....Don't scratch your paint based on my curousity..... :? )

What ticked me off is my wife'* '99 buick century has rust on the inside driver'* side door down at the bottom. I noticed it last spring. Her father is an auto body man. He said that since it'* from the inside it can't be stopped, only slowed. Apparently water got down past the window seal and collected inside the interior of the door.
Any suggestions? He mentioned something about pouring a lubricant of some sort down there to help repel water and slow the ammount of O2 that it gets. This way the oxidation will slow down.
It'* rusting right where the two panels meet and are folded and welded together so there'* no getting to it.

You should check and see if the drain holes at the bottom of the door are plugged up with dirt. If they are, water collects and rust starts. No matter what you do, water will collect and all kinds of nasty things will happen. Check that first.
