Running Rough intermittently
I have a 2002 SLE that intermittently runs very rough. I had the codes checked at Autozone and they said it was misfiring on cylinder one. I replaced the plug on cylinder one and no improvement. I checked the wires and they seemed to be ok (44,000miles). I took the car to Firestone and they scanned it and said it had multiple misfires and suggested I replace the plugs and wires, so they did and the car ran fine for about a week and a half and began to run rough again and then quickly cleared up all by itself. A week after the last incident it started to run rough and I was able to get it in to Firestone while it was shaking and they proceeded to test the voltage to the injectors and said that they pushed on one of the plugs to the injector and it started to run fine, so I figured they finally found the problem. Two days later it starts to run rough again and I get it back into Firestone and they suggest a power control module which has to be replaced and programmed at the dealer. I must say that the people at Firestone have given it their best. Any advise from this forum would be much appreciated. Thanks

Multiple misfires tends to be a vacuum leak. Spray carb cleaner on the vacuum lines also around the gaskets on the LIM and throttle body. Don't forget to spray around the EGR valve. If you hear a change in RPM, you found a leak.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will check these ASAP and get back to you. Is there a diagram or picture somewhere to help me locate these parts? I just want to be sure I'm looking at the right things.

Just picked the car up from Firestone and they recommend a PCM replacement due to missing injector pulses to the #1 injector. Anyone ever had that problem? Any recommendations on where to get the PCM other than a dealer?

I find it hard to believe you need a new PCM. Let'* check a few other things first.

Intermittant problem on one cylinder?
I would run a can of good injector cleaner for a tankfull, like BG44
[don't use anything with alcohol in it}
NOT a big fan of paying for repairs, that don't cure a problem
be cautious on what they suggestrazysmile:
