Sounded like my car. I traded in my G6 for the 02 SSEi in February. I knew what to look for with this car which had several things wrong with at the time I signed the sales contract. I never mentioned anything to the salesman though. The day after I bought it, I took it in to the service department and had them replace the LIM and UIM gaskets, both valve cover gaskets, alternator, idler pulley, lube the intermediate shaft, fix the trunk leak, and also had a whole new exhaust system put on due to a broken catalytic converter. Everything was done free of charge under the dealers GM certified preowned warranty.
Wait G6 came out in 05 an you traded it in for an older car?
Yup! I bought it new (9 miles) and had it for 11 months. The G6 has it'* short comings. The fly by wire steering would lock up while turning, brakes sucked, the body flexed to much, the interior was imposible to keep clean, and you can't buy normal maintenance stuff for it like wiper blades. Actually theres a lot of people from g6ownersclub.com that have gotten rid of their G6'* after a short time. GM hasn't refined the car yet.

Man, these cars are plagued with problems. I have lost both back windows, I have a leaking door seal, leaking trunk, the motors on the front windows are going out, gonna try a swap for the back window motors as they are both still good. Oil pressure sending unit, some kind of trippy shift problems around 50 to 60 mph, but when I kick it to shift it goes away, This is so disgusting, I hate to say it but it'* no wonder GM is going so downhill. Were all these cars made on Friday at beer 30 or what??

It really is disheartening but I can't complain much. I just really hate to see such a sexy, powerful beast of a car have so many problems. I feel ya on that love hate relationship thing cause I got one too. I'm just gonna drive mine till the wheels fall off.

Good luck,

Tim

What'* the status on the replacement engine?
Ah sorry, haven't been on the board in a while to reply.

Anyway, quick summary. I bought the engine from Ed Morad for $950, had the dealer install for $1500. Orig price quote was $1300 but I had them replace the Pressure Control Solenoid (was having THAT tranny problem too) and the oil pan (Ed said they lose their seal...so I figured I'd get it taken care of for cheap when the engine was out of the car).

So now the results. The car actually feels much better than before. The engine is much quieter than my old one, and the new PCS seemed to fix my tranny problem...so the car rides much smoother now. All in all, it looks like the dealer did a good job on the install. I was expecting the worst. No leaks, rides smooth and purrs like a kitten on extacy.

So now I need to decide if I dump the car while it is riding so wonderfully...or if I keep it until the next major repair.

Did anyone take the oil pan off or look at the old engine to see what came apart?
