I have a 2002 SSEI with a factory supercharger. There was a loud squealing sound coming from it. My mechanic took off the belt and there was play in the pulley. He told me the supercharger was bad and I needed a new one. Before I put out a bunch of money on a new one I am wondering if it could be the coupler bearings or something in the snout. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appricaited.

It could be something in the snout. Which way does it have play?

If its the snout bearings, then you can just replace the snout end of it.
You can disconnect the */C belt and zip tie it off to the side until you can get your hands on one.
Many a member here has 'discovered' they had been driving around without the belt attached. You will just suffer some performance is all.
When you do replace it, its recommended to use GM supercharger oil. It stinks like, well you know. You can subsitute it with Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil. I forgot what weight, search the forums for it.
