Well......change of heart. It took me 15 minutes this morning to get the key to turn. I am going first thing in the morning to get a new lock cylinder installed, ,if I can get the key to turn. I'll report back how that went later.

To me, it'* pathetic that a switch(in this case, the ignition switch) would fail after so relatively few operations. Think about it. How many times has this switch been activated? A couple of thousand times at most. My guess is that GM told their supplier to give them a switch that would last xxx times and that they wouldn't pay $.01 more for a switch that would last twice as long.

I have been having this trouble also. My key turns just a little, maybe enough for the radio and fuel pump to kick on but that is it. There was a TSB for the ignition switch sticking. I changed that, very easy, but that was not it. Same problem as though I did nothing. I lubed the key cylinder, thought that did it but was wrong again. I am going to change the key cylinder next. It is getting very annoying!!

Well I changed the key cylinder but I guess I will have to wait and see. It is working fine now and it has been in for over a week. Only time will tell

I had the same problem, could not remove key from ignition switch. I have a 2000 SLE with a console, underneath the shifter is an electric solenoid that alloys the key to be removed when car is in park. A small spring helps the solenoid move into the right position, mine was broken off. Went to Ace Hardware, found a similar spring, problem solved.

just curious what it cost you to get a new ignition cylinder
and was it a GM part and installed by them
I was quoted last year $625, for a new one but they cleaned mine instead, it had filings in it $187 labor
