Gauge Cluster Malfunction 2001 Bonneville
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and Bonneville ownership. I just recently purchased a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SE, its beautiful with almost every option, leather, etc. I have a seemingly MAJOR issue that just popped up. The car has 83,000 miles on it, and all of a sudden the instrument cluster stopped working properly.
The gauges all sweep except for the speedometer and tachometer. They perk up to the 0, but do not fully sweep. They do not function at all after that, no indication of RPMs or current speed whatsoever. The odometer also does not function and the Systems Monitor says "TIRE PRESS" even tho its not low. The turn signals and cruise control also do not work. This stuff all seems related, and I'm guessing its some kind of speed sensor or something, but I dont know where to look.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!
EDIT: I just found this post where the guy has the EXACT same issue (speedo, tach, odo, turn signals, and cruise) http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...09&highlight=A
But there is no solution, and that was posted in 2002, lol.

Its possible. My friends dad is a mechanic and took a brief look at it about an hour ago. He checked the fuses, unplugged the battery, etc and still no dice. I've read a few places about a "Body Control Module", and he said he is familiar with it but isnt sure where it is located. Anyone have any clue? Maybe its just a loose connection or something. Either way, this whole not knowing how fast I'm going thing is kinda ridiculous. The dealership wants alot of money just to take a look at it. ANY help would be super appreciated.

I'll move your topic to the proper section for you (2000-2005) and let you know that we don't want mechanical topics posted in General Chat. If a new member joins and searches for posts of a mechanical nature in a specific section, they'll never find it here. Nor will our Gearheads find it, as they rarely surf General Chat unless they're bored.
In the meantime, I'll tell you that on my 93 SSEi, everything sweeps EXCEPT the tach and speedo. Only the small gauges.

Thanks alot for your help, I wasn't sure where to post. I've heard varying things but never anything official on the sweeping of the tach and speedo. Some say they all do, others say the tach and speedo dont. Either way, thats NOT the main issue. The main issue is that they just plain don't have a readout at all.

Check the C1 connector on the Instrument Panel Cluster, it may have worked its way loose. Many of the functions/signals that you don't have come through C1. What is your trim level? 2000+ models didn't have the SSE trim level.

Sorry about the mistype, its just an SE. Where would I find this C1 connector? Would that affect the cruise control and turn signals as well? The hazards work. I keep hearing people mention the Body Control Module (BCM). Thanks guys!

OK, so I'll check the C1 and C2 connections. Where exactly do I find the connections, are they labeled? Also, is there some kind of "How To" on taking apart the dash and accessing the rear of the IPC?
So I take it no one thinks that its the BCM then? I guess if speed and tach come straight from the PCM then it couldn't possibly be the BCM.
