Click then scratch sound from under passenger dash
Hey guys,
In the past week, a weird noise has started coming from the passenger side of my dashboard. For a while, it was just a clicking sound like you were hitting a dime against an empty coke can. That sound still exists, and I cannot figure out what it is. It almost sounds like rocks hitting the under frame of the car, but too frequently.
Now I am also hearing a sound that sounds like a click (almost like a compressor click), and then a scratch sound, almost like running a serrated knife down leather. It comes and goes. Yesterday it was only happening when it was hot and bright outside, but not in the dark. Tonight it was still happening even in twilight, with cool twilight temperatures. I have a video recorded with the sound, and I'll try and post it later.
Until then however, does anyone maybe know what may be going on? I stupidly smacked/banged the side of my fist against the right side of the middle console of the dashboard (where the radio and climate controls are) thinking it might make the sound stop, and a sound like a bunch of screws or coins falling occurred. I'm not sure what that was. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks!
*Also, this occurs with the air conditioner on or off, it doesn't matter, and there is really no trigger or pattern for the noise...it just seems random.

i had a mouse in my blower motor. when you turn the fan on does your dashboard shake and rattle? pull your cabin air filter and look for signs of intruders.

Remove the kick panels from under the dash and have a look around. You can also remove the glove box liner. I wonder if something came loose and it'* rattling around. That might be why you heard what sounded like screws falling.

My air diverter actuator creeks. But that only happens at start up and changing airflow direction for defroster, heater, etc. When does it happen?
