Welcome Tammy. If you do a search (button toward the top of the page) you'll find fixes for virtually each of your problems. The overhead lights is the only unusual one. A quick run down.

Gas gauge - Problem with the fuel sender unit. You can replace that, but a cheap fix for replacing the wiper has been posted. There is an access panel in the trunk to allow for removal of the fuel pump and sender.

Oil pressure - Replace the oil pressure sender. It'* on the engine near the oil filter.

Leaking trunk - search for trunk leaks.

Peeled paint on radio - Haven't had much of that, but the face plate would likely have to be replaced.

Clunking in steering column - likely the intermediate steering shaft. Search techinfo for a how to lube or replace.

Rear window regulators - also in techinfo.

Radio lights and various dash lights either burn out or have bad solder connections.

Also, if you would put the year and model of your vehicle in your profile, also at the top of the page, you won't have to tell us each time. If you need additional help from here, start an individual thread for your problems in 2000+ or electrical sections, depending on the problem. It will get more attention, as after a while, people skip of the stickies.

This topic is for identifying common problems, not solving them. I agree that you would be best to start a new topic for your own issues.

ok so here is the scoop

this is the cost in us dollors for everything rounded up,

1. oil pressure switch $50 bucks
my thought is it is pegged to 120 then you got oil pressure dont worry if not worry.

2. window regulators
rear regulators can be found on the internet for $90 a side these days beats the $300 of old days. think it is at at site called www.doctorautoparts.com
3. hub asembly/wss at same web site for $95 bucks or autozne for $118 is what i paid.

4. climate control module is a dealer item only best price is gmpartsdirect for like $200 bucks. picked one up off line out of a junk yard for 25 bucks it was from a caddy.

5. new intake plemn (spelling) can find on ebay for $55 and gasket kit for $40 at parts store.

6. Kit to fix fuel level sending unit was $47 from dealer i didn't want to wait for the part in the mail for $26, besides after shipping cost not much savings vs wating time.

7. Fogged headlamp assemblys $135 per side from abv website i belive.

i did all the work my self so it helped keep cost down

Default Mechanical Problems

I read all of these posts and it makes me glad that I bought the extended GMPP for my
2002 SSeiEi. It has 92,500 miles on it now and the warranty lasts until it has 108K. I bought the car new on 2/02 and finished paying it off 9 months ago.

Mileage Problem
35,,600 intermediate shaft sreplaced
39,331 both tie rod ends4
7,619 broken wire to gas tank sensor in wire harness causes SES light to go on
63,943 ignnition lock failed, car had to be towed, intermediate shaft replaced again
64,445 radio lights failed, new radio intstalled, fuel injector #4 replaced due to cracked seal, warped intake gaskets repalced due to cololant leak, supercharger actuater dry rotted
65,400 steering position sensor replaced
72,146 vibration from tires, (TSB for out of round tires), hunter tire force balancer, Not really the dealer'* fault. Goodyear originally made specially balanced tires for these cars but stopped do ing so a few years ago.)
74,002 valve cover oil leak, power steering high pressure hose leak , driver'* heated seat short in wiring, catalytic converter broken apart inside and replaced, both steering front struts bad - replaced, oil pressduure switch repalced,
92,500 intermediatew link going bad again (not replaced yet)

I spent aboput $600 for the GMPP deductible on these repairs that undoubetly would have cost over $4000 if I had to pay out of pocket. Mostkly the car is highway driven. Hopefully the other window regulators will die before the warranty expires. 6The GMPP extended warranty cost me $1600.

My '96 Friebird had 170K on it and was never back to the dealer once fpr any warranty work. The only thing major that went bad was the clutch and clutch hydraulic master cylinder after about 110K.,

1965 GTO (sold)
1965 Temopest Wagon (sold)
1963 LeMans Conv. (sold)
1960 Vaxuhall (well it was imported by Pontiac) .

Off topic I was thinking about getting a 2005 Bonne GXP but after all the stuff going wrong with mine, I don't want to have to go through the same thing with that one also. . There was one last month on cars.com with 1100 miles on it, never titled, full warranty, red My '96 Friebird had 170K on it and was never back to the dealer once for any warranty work

2001 SLE Problems I've encountered

Windows quit working all 4 over the course of a year, replaced under warrenty
Gas Gage not working
Water Leak Wet Carpet Pass side
Clunking noise in steering
Ticking noise from under dash (fixed once by dealer relaced clip)
Vibration at 70 mph (Not tires or balancing)

Will try some of the suggestions for the water leak issue as this is a very annoying problem.

If you look at my post on the bottom of page four, you'll find the part number.

I've had almost all of these problems including the bubbling hood. I had it into the dealer 4 times for that each time they just sanded and repainted, except for the last time they replaced the hood. Just today my 3rd window regulator went out. I replaced the intermediate shaft last month. Had both the driver and passenger seat heater elements replace a few years back. But the worst of it all was the water that got into the drivers side rear seat compartment. It flooded 6 times before the dealer could figure out what the problem was. They never really told me either. Had the oil pressure sending unit replaced once. Not really anymore problems. Oh and bye the way my car is a 2001 SSEi and it had the bubbling hood issue.
