Wide Open Throttle question
With the car is running in park and I go up to 3000 rpm and let off the gas I will hear a small knock ( like metal on metal) It only happens after I let off the gas. Please bonneville gods let me know what this may be.
Also after I do my oil changes and I start the car back up the engine will knock like twice and I will never hear that sound again untill I do my next oil change. I'm just tying to be pro active in any future problemsl. thanx a million.

Thats a bad sign....
Chances are thats a rod tap( the knock will come in the future ).... If the bearings in the bottom end are in good shape, you will not get that knock when you change the oil and first start the car...
Take it easy on this motor untill it either gets worse or you are ready to replace it or rebuild it..
Also keep using the same oil as well...

I hate to hear that man but thanx for the info. Is a rebuild a do it yourself job?
I'm going to search for rebuilds on the l27. Is there anything I can do to prolong a engine rebuild?

I have seen a few drive for a year or two with what you have described... But thats not to say that it won't spin a bearing, that is possible... From whay you described I will say that you are on borrowed time...
As for the rebuild it can be done... But depending on what needs to be done and needs to be replaced, a rebuild can get pricey... Yes you can rebuild it, as long as you have a clean place to do so, and follow all of the proper steps when assembling the engine..
Buy the time you have spent all of the money on the rebuild you could have bought an L27 longblock reman engine...
If it does come to it it may be more feasible to find an L27 from a 95 Buick Le Sabre, Pontiac Transport and the like as long as it says Tuned Port Injection... I have seen a couple of these with as little as 60k on them...
Good Luck

I would say try to run a thicker oil, like 15W-40 because it'* summer time and warm out (don't use thicker oil in winter). The thicker oil provides more protection in worn out bearings and might buy you a little more time.

When i bought my 93 bonneville ssei, i had to smog it and as i was accelerating to 2500 rpm, i heard knoking and hitting. it sounded like a transmission problem. Two weeks later, my cars tranny breaks down. Dont know why but i blame that noise.

this sounds like it is in the engine. and I only hear it once I get up to about 3000 rpms.
What are some company'* that rebuild engines for a good price?
Who has done this that can help me with some research?

rev limiter should be a 4k rpm, it was on my Series 2 and is also on my Shortstar, also neither one ever made/makes a sound of any kind when the limiter kicks in, the car just shudders and refuses to go any higher, so I dont know why the rev limiter would be any lower on the L27.

I don't think the early ones had a limiter untill 5k.... 94 may have been another story altogether
