Update: And Does This Sound Right?
Hii Gang!
Some of you may remember the issue I had with my TCC lockup and OD, dropping back into 3rd gear and out of TCC lockup when the tranny reached a "warm" state. The good news is that I think my mechanic got it right. Everything seems to be working like new now. I do have a question, which is do you think I was charged fairly? Here'* what was done:
1. Fixed an engine oil leak...replaced the pan gasket with an updated improved version. (Unrelated to TCC problem)
2. Located excessive valve body wear at the TCC bore.
3. Replaced valve body and gasket.
4. Replaced trans pump with a reman pump.
5. Flushed and replaced trans fluid (10 qts).
6. Reconditioned the 1-2 accumulator (corrected hard 1-2 shift).
7. Replaced the trans filter and pan gasket.
8. Replaced side cover gasket.
Like I said, after about 30 miles, the trans is like new.
The charge for this work was $1000. Was I charged fairly, in your opinion? I have used this mechanic frequently, and I have no reason to think I was overcharged. But with the size of the bill, I just wanted a second opinion.
Now I will have to change my sig line, coz I got no more leaks! And I have to plan on at least 2 more years with the Bonne!
Thanks,
John

Yep, that'* a lot of money, but there were a few fairly expensive parts replaced. And if he charged flat rate labor, that'll kill you too. All in all price sounds about right for the amount of work done. That valve body & other tranny work is pretty much labor intensive. ....$.02

Thanks for the opinions so far. I believe that I was charged fairly, for the amount of time he spent on the Bonne. There are some other small things he did, like replace some vacuum lines and tied up some loose wires here and there. I think he charged me no more, and no less than should have been charged. But I am no mechanic. If I had taken this to a dealership, I probably would have been even more lighter in the wallet.
BTW, he referred to something in the tranny nicknamed the "cheese grater". It was something he replaced a few years ago when my (future) wife was driving the car and broke doen in the mountains. He said it still looked great. What is he referring to? I think it has something to do with the 1-2 shift.
Thanks folks!
John

No the "cheese grater" is a little screen in the valve body. Looks kind of like a little pyramid of wire mesh, or a cheese grater. Never heard it called that lol. But to each his own.
