Default UIM/LIM Gasket change

Hey guys, my 96 SE has been using coolant out of the resevoir for some time. I believe it has finally gotten bad enough that I am going to change out these gaskets everyone talks about. I have been searching for the procedure but can't find it. I am sure I saw a thread once with pictures and directions on this.

Couple questions I have,
#1 what are the best gaskets to get.

#2 do I need to replace the UIM? I think I remember reading there is a date stamp on them...

#3 I have been searching for the thread with some good pics of the procedure ( I am sure I read it here at one time) of this whole procedure but could be mistaken as my memory is pretty bad.

Thanks for any help guys.

Dave

#1 - I used these gaskets in my car
#2 - I'll let someone with a N/A motor chime in on this one
#3 - Here ya go.

Either the gaskets go bad, or your EGR port goes bad(which is part of your UIM) You never know really which one until you pull it off.
Too err on the safe side, buy the complete kit. Gaskets and UIM.

And BP, I think you forgot to provide the link needed to perform this task....???

Uhhh, hmmm. I THOUGHT we had something in Techinfo....runs and hides...

I found it in Techinfo! Thanks a lot guys. Should I buy the UIM from the same guys who have the gasket set?

Sure. It'* a safe bet that you'll get a post-2003 UIM these days. Most have the EGR port strengthened with brass, which should make them bulletproof.

I am looking at their site now and am assuming that my 96SE which is N/A would be the L 36.....? Is that correct?

Hey guys, I have the upper intake and gasket set, and the intake gasket set in my cart at zz. Are there any other gaskets I should purchase? Should I get the coolant elbows? I want to cover all the bases while this is torn down.

Based on my experience with ZZP'* gaskets, I'd recommend not buying this from them. The gaskets appear to be OEM like, yet they don't fit and may cause leaks.

Another thing I have come across is they keep their costs low by providing only what you see in the picture. In their picture the UIM, gasket, map cap and pcv tube are the only things seen. If you were to say order this from Rockauto or a local parts store it would include the UIM, gasket, map cap, pcv, pcv tube, injector o-rings, the plastic tube for the back of the manifold, all o-rings for pcv and two size stove pipes which fit either the newer design or old design of the LIM.

If you buy the metal LIM'* from a dealer or Intense Racing, you are getting a GM OEM gasket that fits perfectly.

BTW don't forget the Dorman 47065 set of coolant elbows that you will want to have/replace.

OK, I am looking at thr RockAuto site. There are so many selections I am totally confused now. There seems to be multiple selections for the same items? Not sure which ones I should get...? Any suggestions?
