Two seperate problems, or are they related? 1992 SSEI
I think that the two problems I'm about to describe are unrelated, but maybe they're not? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. I will post the quick versions.
1992 SSEI w/ 130 orig K
#1) For the past few days it has become increasingly difficult to start my car. My hunch is the starter is nearly gone. Sometimes makes the 'grindy' starter sound like something is missing, and other times it simply 'whirrs'. Tried cleaning the + connection at the battery, but truthfully the starter just makes sense. 130k + likely original starter + goddam command start that was in it before me + grindy noise = starter?
IS THERE A SPECIFIC STARTER I SHOULD BUY? AM I TOTALLY OFF THE MARK HERE?
#2) This is the weird one. Today, for the first time ever, there is a quite a puddle of oil on my driveway. Never leaked a drop before, but today there is likely half a liter on the driveway. Is there anyway that the two issues could be related? By trying repeatedly to get the starter to catch, is there any way that oil could be forced out somewhere (the supercharger?). Or could I have blown a gasket? I can't tell where the oil is leaking from, but it seems to be a steady leak as I went to pick-up my lady from her office, and when we left there was some oil on the ground.
Again, any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking, and have a great night.

Hey good to see another Albertan on here!
Your diagnosis on the starter seems accurate (although unfortunate :()
As far as the oil, there isn't really anyway it could be coming from the supercharger. It'* a sealed unit with its own oil for lubrication (which you should probably change, if you haven't already). I would be seriously concerned with that much oil loss. Check EVERYTHING. I'd check the drain plug, pan gasket, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets...just try and determine where the oil is coming from, and keep an eye on that level!

The starter for the supercharged 3800 is pricey compared to the NA unit. That sucks, on top of the fact that noone normally stocks it, it'll take a day or two to come in. It sounds like yours is loosing control of the bendix (gear that turns the flywheel).
The oil, like others have said, could come from anywhere but the SC. Is there a specific spot the oil seems to be under? Start there, and work your way up.

Are you sure it is engine oil? If you have never had a problem with oil leaks then it is prob. your trans is overfilled or your powerstearing lines/rack.

I would give her a look underneath myself. I don't like the dealership. When I got the car it had tranny leak. They try to tell the tranny had failed. In realty it was leaking from tranny cooler(line rust at) got some high pressure hose and it was all good. As for the tranny it is fine never hear any from tranny. If it leak like mine it would only leak when the car was running. I got showed tranny fulid (lol). So I would a least try to find out the area were is come from so you know when they telling you bs
