When warm it'* ok.

Changed the fluid and filter. Let'* never talk about it again: problem'* fixed!

Oh and I managed to drain it tidily. I loosened the bolts so the pan fell diagonaly, literally nothing dripped where I didn't want it to drip.

I am glad that took care of it for you. I agree with you on the change. By selectively loosening bolts you can control where the fluid runs out, and I don't have the huge mess others talk about.

Now ask yourself what other routine maintenance items may not have been done to this car, assume they need to be done, and take care of them as well. Radiator coolant flush comes to mind.

all the rwd, and 4wd trans ive done you can do that but the 4t60 seems not to want to drain the way i want it.

I changed mostly every fluid the car contained except the trans fluid, which is now done.

I repaired the driver'* rear quarter panel today with fiberglass, all that'* left to do is rebuild the rad, it leaks a bit but the car never overheats. I'm running straight distilled water until I do it, which should be next paycheck.

As for the trans, I sadly went too fast to conclusions, it did it again.

BUT, I checked and let'* say it'* doing it, if I choose 1st gear manually it'* ok, so it'* something about not going in first gear by itself. It'* ok after 2-3 shots. What could cause that?

use a syphon pump to get the fluid out first, it works great... you can get such a pump at harbor freight, it has two tubes and is usually called a transfer pump.... put the suck tube down the trans tube and pull out the fluid... wait a few mins pull out the rest... then when you take pan down... no fluid gets all over the place... its really a no brainer but.. i dont hear about it much....

as for your trans problem its probably the 1-2 roller clutch.... look at the sonnax information in the attached PNG images... see if this discription is like your problem.

oh and.... dont use the distilled water ..... it absolutly will result in you having to replace your water pump. boiling your radiator and maybe blowing a head gasket too.

think it thru..... distilled water boils at 212 F antifreeze boils at like 240 and higher...... so the pressure is much higher for plain water... so then... at higher pressure... even with a leak... the steam will get out fast... and what do we use steam for... degreasing engines right ??

well... the water will degrease your water pump bearings... and cause your block to rust inside... the rust will circulate and clog your radiatior.... also i have seen waterpump impellers evaporate so fast it makes your head spin....( water pump pumping super hot plain water will cavitate and rust the impeller very quicly becasue of a chemical reaction of water on iron in a semi vaccuum ) sooo, compair the cost of running antifreeze with a leak or... running water and very shortly replaceing your water pump and boiling out your radiator and possibly a freezeout plug or two and maybe even a head gasket.....you should run the antifreeze.

antifreeze should read... "anti-boil, non freezing water pump bearing lubrication fluid" cause thats what it does
