trans fluid ?
I read back about 2 years in the searches and came up with yet still a unsure answer. My trans fluid doesnt smell burnt but it is on the brown side. I added some lucas to it and now it is surgging/slipping one the first shift into third. I checked and the fluid is overfilled. So my thing is should i just have the fluid changed. Like just drop the pan and new fluid and filter. Or what? I am real new to the tranny stuff. Give me yo guy'* professional input Also if suggested to do filter and fluid, what kind and what is the gasket number?

I had been having a slowly worsening shift behavior, slipping a lot into third and shuddering other times. A new vacuum modulator fixed it for a while, it started coming back, fluid started turning brown. I got flushed and a new filter. Lost TC lockup and third almost entirely 5 days later. I'll get it back from the tranny shop tomorrow or Wednesday, about 2G lighter in the wallet.

yea actually what i do not want to hear, i have heard so many stories about changing the fluid and boom there goes the tranny. But i have also heard that it is the tranny all ready gone and that is just the last straw. Anyone else have any information....

yea i read that. I dont know what to do :( It is either drive it like it is and no it is causing some kind of harm or change it and take the chance. Either way i have no money to play with the tranny. It is werid it is only when it is cold, after it shifts once or tiwce it is fine the rest of the day. Also when doing a fluid change arent you still leaving about atleast a third of the fluid in the trans? I asked about that kit is there better ones?

A flush will replace ALL of the fluid. Dropping the pan and changing the filter will only replace 1/3 of the fluid.
If I were in this situation, I would leave well enough alone. Drive it until it dies. A flush may or may not help you. I wouldn't spend the money on the flush and instead put it toward a new transmission, when the time comes.
