I've been leary of your crook...I mean mechanic for quite a while.
Ask around friiends and parents friends for names and references of good reliable mechanics. They are out there..but you need to look for them.

Eric, the tranny fluid, filter, and gasket is really easy to do.
I did it myself for the firstime every last year.
Guys would a bigger or second tranny cooler help in this case?

Eric wouldn't have a cooler from the factory. It wouldn't hurt to add a reasonably sized one.
Some around here have been oversize cooler happy and it may hurt in the winter..

For up north I would reccomend a mid sized cooler.... Don't go nuts like the Admin in FL... He has a lot of hot or warm weather... Never cold enough to overcool the trans...

PS, i just checked fluid levels with trans and engine warm, fluid is at correct operating level.

Now that its working again, are you still hearing the hiss?

The Trans was either too hot, there may have been a solenoid sticking, or the PCM may have had a goof... the 95 PCM'* are very freaky( 94 included )...
The Old hydraulic 4T60 is a bit of a diffrent story.. But again the Vac Modulator is more for Shift quality..

Alright guys here is where I need help. Just recently the check engine light came on in my 99 SSEi. It seems when I take off from a stop it struggles but it only does it when it is at normal operating temps. When it is cold it shifts very smooth but still does the same thing it did before. As it shifts from 2nd at 42 mph, the tranny shifts but drops the rpms to 1500 like it is going into OD. Now I am really worried and I need to know exactly what is wrong and fast I am using my 92 as a back up but I need to know what is wrong with my 99. The fluid is a lt. pink but smells burnt. If it comes to replacing the tranny I need to know if anyone has a decent one they are willing to part with. Thanks alot guys.

What kind of "flush machine" are we talking about.... The only one that I have seen my
tranny-guy use does exactly what the article says to do by yourself.... the only thing is that it does it automatically, instead of you pouring in the clean fluid....
It has two separate containers, one full of new fluid, and the second one to collect the old fluid. You take off the line at the cooler, hook up the new fluid input to one side, and the old-fluid output to the other. Start the machine and the car, and the dark fluid empties while the new fluid replaces it.
Since new fluid is always flowing out of the new-fluid container, how can that "contaminate" anything???
And by the way, guys, fluid colour may or may not be a good indication of tranny health. My 1997 turns the colour of crankcase oil in about 10,000 km (which is why I DO replace the complete fluid every year or two). It has been that way since I bought it about 40,000km ago and who knows how long before. It has not yet hiccupped, touch wood. Tranny guy says he never seen anything like it, says with colour like that should have all kinds of code-sets, etc, but nothing ever happens.
Matters not to me because I negotiated the purchase price with the idea that I may have to replace the tranny, anyway.
Tranny guy says problem with this series of trannies is a bad design in a valve that operates way too much. He offers a modified rebuild for $1800 installed. I keep thinking that its time to do it, but then the black oil pulls me through for another year or two and so..."let'* wait some more"....
It will probably get done before winter.
Maybe.
