Looking at the service manual, it looks like both tensioners are attached to a single bracket... Unfortunately you have to remove the alternator, drain the coolant, heater hoses and pipes, power steering hoses, and power steering pump to get to it.... Looks like a pain.

From my remote diagnosis earlier, I still doubt a bad tensioner, but I'll default to Fuddy, who actually looked at the car. My gut tells me that tensioner is simply a symptom of something else on that belt path.
Is it possible to simply replace the spring in the tensioner without gutting the whole engine bay?
BTW, aren't gearheads great?

I'd hate to see him change the tensioner and find out it'* something else. I'd love to personally get my hands on that car again. That'* a major undertaking. Anyone else available to poke at it and isolate the belt/tensioner jumping? Or get a stethescope on the car?
