with the MAF unplugged the car will cold start and idle... Even warm if you let off the gas slowly the engine should idle... Driveability will sort of suck tho, and if you let the RPM'* come down too fast it will stall out...
I'd hate to tell you to get a New MAF and have that not be the issues...
At the same time when these cars age, its more than possible for the PCM to call up the grey ghost...
Do you know anyone with a 3800 SC 92-93 that you could swap a sensor from? And its strange to have 2 sensors with the same problem... If possible I'd take the sensor back and see if you can get another..

The PCM right now should have a MAF sensor codes stored as it was unplugged... I'd be tempted to pull the codes, reset the PCM via disconnecting the battery, and then plug it in and see if you get the same code...
If you get a code 58, thats a known bug with the 92 programming

That'* weird. My SES light hasn't come on not even once since that sensor has been disconnected.
Too bad there isn't anyone near me with a 3800.

Does the SES light up when you start the car? It should and then it should go out... But when you unplug the MAF the SES light should come on right away, Instantly is the right word
But with it unpluged all of the time the SES should lite and stay on

Last totall failure I had left the SES light with a mind of its own... And no codes for the longest... Then all of the suddenly one day I got a series of codes..LOL

I finally got around to installing the PCM this afternoon. Ugh, I never knew I could bend like that. Anyhow, I started the car and it ran fine. The SES light came on and stayed on (I have the MAF ubpluged) so that leads me to believe that I did in fact need a PCM.
BUT -
Once the car warmed up, the idle became choppy and the car wanted to stall. It didn't, but wanted to. I also noticed a strong exhaust smell. I've actually noticed that for a while now, but forgot to mention. I am having a long time friend who is in town scan the codes for me tonight.
Ever feel like banging your head against the wall and asking "Why Me?"

Thinking the poor idle was the computer learning idle. And the exhaust smell might be a O2 or something? Scan would show it though.
