Another thing I find helpful is when the cam is out. Plug the hole with a rag, cover the lifter valley/pistons (if open) and clean the gasket surface w/o the gears in the way. That'* so you can ensure you don't nick any gears. Shouldn't hurt them if you do, but at this point..why chance it?
In the pm, we were chatting about L26 oil filter adapter/pan etc. L26 is meant for a W body which means the adapater sticks toward the passenger side of the car instead of tucking under. Us H body guys would hit the subframe with that adapter. We need the right adapter/pick up tubes.

Finished up the engine today.
First, I got a nice care package from hock, very unexpected. Thanks.
Cleaned up the heads so their ready to mount.
Head gaskets
Ready to put the heads on.
Heads are in place.
Torquing them down.
Torque to yield, 120* Very hard work when your still a little under the weather.
Got the valve train all in place. blows me away how clean this block is.
Getting the LIM in place.
Tossed on the valve covers.
Alternator and tensioner.
ICM bracket and tensioner.
Got the intercooler and supercharger installed
Tossed the belts on
Got it all done, here'* some beauty shots.
Look at that, my work bench is nearly empty.

I like it when they are that clean. My 3rd motor was like that one.
An IR Titanium gun, dayyyyyum. I have the 3/8 version of that gun and well. Mechanic buddy didn't want to give that back either. Matter of fact..we snapped a couple stubborn motor mount bolts with that 3/8" gun.

I'm impressed. I hooked it up yesterday and put a few drops of oil in, then gave it a spin. Wow, did that thing take off. My old one was retired right there. I'll give it to my son.
