So what'* the best bet? Replace all of them, or just this pair? Please don't tell me I need to replace the crank
The crank journal looked okay I guess. Nothing like these bearings.

Some people may not agree with me here...
But if the Crank has to be turned down .020 to obtain a smooth surface then you should consider the crank as garbage and get another..
In either event, the crank will have to come out and be turned down to ensure a true surface..( .020 being garbage ).. Then you will use oversized bearings keeping in mind you'll want to have the rods checked and resized if needed..
When you described it in the first post you described a bad rod bearing perfectly

Got one decent pic of the crank journal. It feels really smooth, no grooves or valleys, but the pic may say otherwise.
