Scattered transmission, what can I use to replace it?
Hello,
Just totally lost the transmission.... scattered it across the highway. I am wondereing and have been reading on what transmissions will fit my car. I have a 92 ssei with the overdrive tranny. Do i need to get one from 92-96 that is from a SC car or will the NA work as well? Any help would be great!!! thanks

you will need one from a SC car, you can look at the Bonne, Park Ave, Rivera, and the Olds LSS/88. All these cars had a option for the SC. I think that you might need one that is a 92-93 only. Some one on here will confirm later

What I am looking for is if the trannys are the same (besides) the electronics? There are a heap of NA 3800'* here and the trannys are easy to find... I would like to be able to use one of those, the gear ratio'* are the same...aren't they? What all would need to be changed in order to make a NA transmission work in a SC car of the same year?

Unfortunately the NA motors had a regular transmission and the SC'd had heavy duty only. Another possibility besides checking the cars 1993 mentioned would be to look in the paper for a parts car or something like that with a good transmission.

The gear ratio of the NA'd bonnies are either 2.84 or 3.06...
The SC'd Bonnie like your SSEi has the 2.97 gear ratio, also keep in mind that certain parts of the trans are beefed up to handle the extra torque the SC'd motor makes... The torque converter would be a good example.... The connectors and connector pinouts changed over the years as well...
Best bet is to find a 92-93 trans for the Supercharged 3800... You'd be very lucky if you came across a SRTA Hydramatic trans in a junkyard car... I have only found a couple of these...
Good Luck

92 and 93 transmissions are NOT interchangable. I suggest a new GM rebuilt trans primarily, or maybe one from www.seriesoneperformance.com
If this doesn't work out, get one from a wrecker and have it rebuilt. You might also want to call www.pheonixhardparts.com and see if they have one in stock.

So what is the difference between the 92 and 93 tranny'* if I may ask. Also, I will be going to look at a 92 PA Ultra and I will ask how much the tranny would be and if it is still good.
