Scan tool <- Can you rent them? Or should I even try.
Hey guys, I'm back again with a new question.
99 Bonneville, 54,000 miles, non supercharged.
Check engine light came on the other day.
Checked all fluids, all were good. Car seems to be running fine.
DISCONNECTED BATTERY for about 30 minutes. Hooked back up. Light went away.
After about 200 miles light came back on.
Can i rent a scan tool to find the source of trouble light?
Thanks for all your help!

ok thanks, just got back.
Misfire on cylinder 6.
Going to change plugs. Girlfriend said the same thing happened 2 1/2 years ago and the dealer did the same thing. Not sure if they changed wires.
odd....

Change those wires. This will happen most often on Cylinders 2, 4, and 6. They're under alot more heat-stress, and those 3 wires fail before the front bank does. This is an indication that your wires are failing.

you guys rock!!!
I was looking at those scanners for $149 at autozone.
Those seem like a nice addition to the toolbox, but it'* free if i just go to autozone and let them do it.

Buying the tool is invaluable, especially if you pick up the Factory Service Manual to go with it from ebay or www.helminc.com
You have the ability then to hook it up and drive, watching things happen in realtime.
