RH rear door...will it ever open again...lol << + pic
Long story short..my RH rear door will not open on my '92 SSE....
Removed inner door panel, etc per DeathRat guidelines ( Alan)
and all latch, lock rods etc are still connected and working.
It appears that a little plastic piece inside the latch normally
moves when you move the lock and this piece has apparently BROKEN
OFF IN THE LOCKED POSITION. It appears none of it protudes (the broken
part does :( )
This is NOT the part that comes out of the power lock actuator, but is
connected to a plastic cam that is moved by that actuator plastic piece.
I did a search, found something about door lock bumpers??? I don't think
that is what broke on mine, but is in the same food chain of parts...
I could be wrong. I really am not sure what is being referred to by
door lock bumpers.
In any case...its going to be hard to repair if I can't get the &%#*(&#!!
door open. How much TNT would be required to blow the door off

Goto a junk yard and rip the guts out of a 92 bonne door and get the parts needed. If you goto the JY and cant find it maybe I can just send me a pic of what you mean and I might be able to help.

If you look around the cam you should see one of the bumpers there. IT is a little rubber boot that is about 1/4 inch long or so. I had similar problems with mine (and still am) and the last time I had it opened up I saw what was causing mine to get stuck. Under normal operation there are a few moveing metal plates in there. One of my plates was getting stuck and not following the lever back to the released position. The plate I am talking about was towards the bottom end of the whole locking mechanism. Apparently this plate (while in the stuck position) prevents the door from becomeing unlocked and therefore you can't open it. Sorry this isn't in more detail or accompanied by pics, but I hope it helps some.

Absolutely, on the junk latch guts...they will be needed...however
they won't be doing me any good until I can get the door open (the latch attach screws of course are in the DOOR JAMB - I have to have the door open to R&R the latch assy)
All help is appreciated...please help!

SSEi, I still think we are in the same part chain, but tend to think
something different has broken in mine. I took a lousy pic last night that I don't have with me. I'll try to take a decent pic tonight.
There definitely is a tan colored plastic part that has BROKEN OFF INTERNALLY in the latch - I can see the broken edge on the other half of this thing which is visible towards the bottom of the latch assy. I took the LH rear door panel off too and compared. It is clearly broken in two...
On the other hand, I consider myself mechanically quite apt and have been looking at this latch (WAY TOO MUCH) and can't place the bumpers by description yet. :?: hmmmm :?: :?:

Andy, thats problem number 2 I hadn't got to yet - FINDING another latch assy:
I thought so too - on studying the mechanism and so went to my
favorite "automotive recycler" - that'* an UPSCALE junkyard you know...
a) they did not have a Bonne or the wits to figure out any interchange, and
b) if they had had anything, they would have wanted to sell me the ENTIRE DOOR " what good would the door be to us with NO LATCH"
I've been kind of busy this week, and hoped probably next week to hit the real, "run by drunken old men " type JUNKYARDS...you know, you call them up and it'* like " I dunno if we have that...why don't you come look "
It was AFTER THIS that I decided to take the LH panel off and STUDY IT...(I work 11 hr days, the jyards both open AND close while I'm still at work)
thanks for help...keep thoughts coming. I know I need to get a good pic up

[b](Obviously, this isn't the door INNARDS anymore. I changed pictures, see my other post....)[/b[
Here is the best picture I have so far (which isn't too good). The circled part is the
half of the plastic part that is broken off. The other half is inside the latch ("upwards" on the picture) still.
The orientation on the picture is your head is inside the RH door, looking aft at the door jamb in the RH lower corner of the picture
This won't help anyone who hasn't seen the latch innards before, but might for those who have :?:
