Questions about the 93
#12
Ahhh, holes in the box. Ok. I will be sure to drill some holes in it. Never hurts to have a little extra ventilation, but otherwise, if there are no restrictions, i might just leave it stock.
And thanks guys for the fuel filter info. I will replace that soon.
Also, I was looking under the car and the cat is FAR away from the heat shield. Thats not the issue, but it is making all kinds of noise, I'll have to get a video of this horrible racket it makes, especially when changing gears. This car sounds like a POS in comparison to how well my 89 runs. Is the exhaust exactly the same between my 89 and 93? I might just swap it out. Being that my 89 has a super old muffler, but it sounds amazing, and the cat was replaced about 40k ago, and still looks pretty good.
Here is what i mean.

Nooooo! Don't swap exhaust with the '89. The factory pipes are a form of stainless steel, and last a very long time. Looks like the pipe on the '89 is newer, but not stainless and (gasp) clamped! I'll bet it doesn't last as long.
Also, if you do have a busted trans mount, that could account for your exhaust hitting somewhere it shouldn't while you drive. Just a thought.
Gotta love the fuel filter on these things, eh? I almost can't wait to change mine...

My reference to checking the heat shields at the cat and the muffler, was not necessarily because the shield was hitting the cat or the muffler, but a missing rivet could cause the shiled to vibrate against the bottom of the car while it is idling. I've seen different Bonnes that rattled and in both cases a rivet was missing and a heat shield was the source of the rattle...one car was the cat heat shield and the other car was the shield above the muffler.
These may not be the issue for your car, John, but I wanted you to eliminate those items as possibilities.

well also, the 93'* entire exhaust SHAKES, constantly, the 89'* is always steady. When I put the 93 in reverse, it shakes so much that it hits something. I took a vid, so you can see what I mean, but it didn't make many of its normal noises, and wont until it gets hot it seems. Because it starts gettin REALLY loud when its idling after high speed driving (i.e. highway)
Also, I checked all the mounts, they all look to be in excellent condition, but is there something specific I should be looking for in a specific area?

Shaking exhaust could be from several things. Rough idle (you may not hear it), loose downpipe, worn hangers, etc. Don't swap in the 89'* exhaust. They're not the same size or the same outlet configuration. And clamps aren't the greatest things you could do to that.

Well its certainly got a rough idle, i know that but its not going away! so far new plugs, oil, and air filter and its still has the shaky exhaust. after i do the oil cleanup today, we'll see how well it improves. And also, I can physically shake the exhaust and it feels rather tight.

A wise man once said, "Fix the problems you know you have, and it just might fix the problems you think you have."
Not sure who that was anymore, but it was someone on here. Very good advise.
With that in mind, I'd tackle the rough idle first. Did it always idle rough? Did it just start with the oil flood? If it didn't come from the lot idling bad, what was the last thing you did before it idled bad?
Does it miss at all under load? Any other signs of running badly other than at idle?
Tell us everything.

Hah, i believe in that saying.
Actually it idled terribly when i bought it. :? REALLY rough. But I said, meh, i can fix that.
So I did NOTHING to it before it started.
I changed the plugs, and it all got smoother, then it came back.
On the road it drives beautifuly, really puts out some serious low end torque, but has NO top end power at all whatsoever, say, passing a car, you start to feel the pull in the lower revolutions, and then when it gets up there to about 3500+ it kinda bogs down, like its either pulling timing or maybe the cat is clogged, thats what made me think that.
The oil flood, if anything made it run better , but at that one point, just after the oil flood, it was idling so rough that it was shaking the whole car as I mentioned. Quite scary.
I should also mention that just before I bought it, the EGR valve and the cam sensor were replaced, don't know if thats worth anything since its not throwing any codes, but you never know.
I'm running out right now to spend my last few dollars on a PCV valve (being that its full of oil, that can't be good), and maybe some other stuff like seafoam. We'll see. I'm thinking about just running it through the gas tank way being that its less hard on the plugs, o2, cat, etc. being that at least one of those is due for replacement and i really dont have the money yet.
So, give me some good information to come back to!!!

Ok, well I just popped the new PCV valve in. Talked to two guys at advance, one telling me that the series I intake has more problems than the series 2 and that I need to do the gaskets every 100k, and he just WOULDN'T hear that thats the S2
ohh well, so he tried selling me all kindsa gaskets and everything, and the other guy told me I need to clean my IAC and possibly replace it if my idle doesnt correct itself after that. So I'll try that and get back to y'all.
