Default climate controls

I too have a 93 SSE. I noticed someone mentioned you can swap the climate controls for the one out of a 95+ car. What items do you need to do this, as I am interested in doing this. And what is the process to go through once you have the parts. Thanks.
Am sick of Mr GM telling me where my air is going to go. Am agrown man and wanna make that choice for my self.
LOL

the security light is normal. go out and do this:

Remove keys from ignition, hit the LOCK button on the driver door. close door...keep window down, manually unlock the car with the door closed. (reach into door and do it that way)

make sure you have your door key handy to disable the alarm.

The flashing security light is normal. when you lock the car it should go solid for a period of time.
I wonder where the above came from...let'* dig into it further with the experience of all members.

93 climate control is the last year you can pull your own diagnostic codes. This is a very handly feature, however over rated if you want control of the airflow. Most would agree the 92, 93 and 94 are basically identical in operation.

The security light when the vehicle is running is and a door is ajar is not normal. With the keys out, yes it should flash. Frequently we have found a bad hood pin sensor or trunk lid sensor to be the cause of the security light seeming to malfunction.

Let'* please think about how newer members will perceive what we pass on to them as veteran members.

The only time I see my security light is when I start the car.

I want to be able to tell the air where to go, having it on my legs causes problems when its really cold because the air is VERY hot when its 0 degrees outside, my legs get hot and the car is still 50 or 60 degrees. If the air could be distributed out of the middle vents like just about every other car out there, then I'd be a happy camper so my feet dont burn up. In the summer I have no complaints, just in the winter when I want the air to go thru the middle vents.

Lets try to avoid confusing people with statements like made above.

The original post never mentioned that the security light was flashing while the car was running, perhaps he did and I'm going half blind. I read that the security light flashes when the door is open, this is NORMAL for a car equipped with an OEM security system. the assumtion is made if the doors open the keys are removed anyway...I remove my keys when I open the door, perhaps others dont.

No one has addressed the oil pressure problem yet..Have you hooked up a mechanical gauge to verify the low reading?

Here'* a link to instructions, AJ:

www.trialsnuts.com/ecc.pdf

You will need the 95 ECC headunit and the HVAC programmer. It'* almost a completely innocuous swap. While you're rooting around under the dash, you might want to consider replacing the air mix actuator too. Just a thought.

Swapping the 93 for the 95 ECC was one of the best things I did on mine. Yes, you will lose the ability to retrieve diagnostic data from your ECC, but I think the trade is worth it. After swapping over, I'd drive around town switching where the heat came out, just because I could.

OK, we've got a couple threads in one here, and I won't say anymore about ECC swaps...let'* get back to naynay'* issues...

Correct Hans, we can not assume anything. Therefore we should elaborate our posts to include our assumptions, such as key on/in ignition/out of ignition etc.

PM me with what you think is confusing about the statement, this post is not the place for that discussion.

As for the mention of overly hot air on legs with cold temps outside, I suggest cleaning the temperature sensor that is located to the right of the dash mounted cigarette lighter behind the vented plastic. Compressed air for a computer or air pump does a good job without having to remove the plastic trim panel.

at the top it says check oil level sensor is on...is it that or is it the pressure sensor....or does 93 not have a level sensor like my 99 does?

It has a level sensor and it will set it'* own dash light. Low pressure will only set the SES or Check gages light informing you to look at your gages.

Low pressure will also cut off fuel and stall the car if it falls to zero for a certain amount of time. It'll remove power from the fuel pump relay.
