Problem when going up hills.. Gear heads please help!!!!
I've encountered a problem with my car when going up a slightly steep hill.
When the car is in 3rd gear, and going up a hill, i push the gas a bit to accelerate, and it starts vibrating. The more i push the gas, the more it vibrates and shudders. Also, it doesn't downshift into 2nd unless i put the gas near WOT. Sometimes, if i let off the gas and go to about 50% throttle it will drop into second easily, but usually it just does the same problem as it doesn when climbing the hill in 3rd without shifting.
I can manual shift the car into 2nd and it does so with no effort and it does it smooth.
Another thing, when accelearting froma dead stop, the car makes a faint lower toned whining noise up until about 40km/h then its not noticable, but it gets continually higher pitched as the car accelerates until its not noticeable, even when it changes gears. It sounds alot like the sound of a manual transmission when in reverse, just not as loud.
What could this problem be?? any help at all?

when was the last time you changed your plug/plugs wires and checked your ignition system? I had the similar situation as your first question.. and it was caused by bad #5 plug wire.. it was open. check those first.

The last time the plugs were changed was about a month ago.
They are AC Delco'* along with brand new 8mm wires.
Also, the car is a 95 SSEi, with 191km

The stumbling climbing a hill is a textbook miss. Check your plugs and measure the resistance of the wires. Get that fixed, then tackle any other symptoms that remain.

I had the same problem, and I changed the plugs. Fixed it for a lil while. Sounds like maybe you need to change your fuel filter out? What really fixed my problem was giving my TB and MAF sensor a GOOD off the car cleaning. Since I have done that....The problem has gone away and hasn't returned since. As for question # 2, does it kinda sound like a PS pump? Sounds like a power steering pump to me. But could be way off, maybe the tranny pump? I dunno. Does it do it before the car'* warmed up? If it only make'* the whining noise within the time it takes to get to normal operating temp, then that would really seem like a PS pump...and I think that'* kinda common on GM vehicles because my Chevy pick up is the same way. Check the PS fluid and make sure it'* topped off.

To problem #2; you say that it seems to fade at about 40km/h like its drive line related?
can you hear this whine while in park or neutral?
Can you let the car coast down a hill from a dead stop (quiet back road some where) in neutral to see if the noise is still there? Could be the start of a bad bearing? Sometimes this gets worse while turning one or the other. or brake pad that is binding either front or rear?

Sounds just like the trouble my 95 is having. Been through two sets of plugs and wires, and cleaned every sensor I could find. Let me know if you figure it out.

Yeah, I just swapped a set of coils from my pars car. Mostly fixed my miss. Now, it it just briefly in little pulses of three. I then checked my ranny fluid, almost .5L low. I'll add some later and see what happens.
