OD lockup question
OK...this is what is happening..
Everything is ok when you first get on the road...Then after everything is up to operating temp? maybe OR , sometimes 35 miles, sometimes it takes 120 miles for this to happen) the overdrive jumps and the rpm'* go up to 3500 and stay...I let off the gas and the rpm'* drop to idle speed even if the car is running 90 mph...When I get back on the gas, the thing is free wheeling until I reach the 3500 rpm'* then I feel the motor and tranny engage again...I can drop tranny into drive and then the motor and tranny are constantly engaged but it will not lock up....
Could this be as simple as a fluid and filter change??? It seems like when the fluid gets hot it starts and only then does it do this...

Sounds like the ever-so-popular Torque Converter Clutch solenoid. Mine is super sensitive to heat for some reason. If I've been driving like a grandma all day it'* fine. Start romping on it for even like 5 minutes and the tranny temps are most likely shooting up enough for the tranny to start acting up. I turn the key off, wait a few minutes and she'* back to normal.

lock up
No ses.....Fluid seems ok, but needs changed I'm sure....Maybe I need a trans cooler....I only owe $2500 on it and it now has 170,000 + miles on it...Sometimes the traction control light comes on and I hear a clicking from the front end, like a tire sounds when it has a nail in it?

You'd think with all these issues we would be able to track down the cause of TCC problems. I'm going to test what happens when I put my Intense PCM in next weekend. Then we'll know for sure if some of these issues are control-related or not. See this thread for 6 pages on some of these problems: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...8351&start=100

Yes you will get an SES light from a tranny problem. It can throw the following :
36 - Transaxle Shift Control Problem
38 - TCC Brake Input Circuit
39 - Torque Converter Clutch Problem
Im thinking if a code is shown, chances are it will be code 39.

hmmmmmmm
Well, after reading over the 6 pages of posts in the link mentioned above...6 PAGES!!! haha :? , I gotta say I agree 100% with willwren
on the ignition problem with the "surging"...I say this because I had this problem once and it was the plug wires jumping fire among themselves....Just enough you could hardly see it in the dark...Low RPM'* in lockup is not much more than idle + a few hundred (800-1000)...You will feel it then because of the load the engine is pulling at that low rpm...
BUT, I do not have a surging (misfiring) problem...I loose overdrive completly....My gas milage sucks because I am running 3500 rpm'* @ interstate speeds or even as low as ANY speed that will allow lockup in od....As I stated above, in od, when it lets go, the engine rpm'* will drop to idle speed when I let off gas and will race up like being in neutral UNTIL I hit the 3500 rpm'*....Less rpm'* if running slower speeds...This 3500 is running interstate speeds of 85 mph.... U get ran over here if you cant hang with the majority...
