No 4th gear
No longer will shift into 4th. Don't know if 4th gear crapped out on me or if the torque converter doesnt engage. I'm going to drop the pan this weekend to see if there'* high quantities of metal. Other than not shifting into 4th it works perfectly.
Pending what I find on the magnet could it be 4th gear is shattered or could it possibly be just a solenoid that fried out?

Does the TCC lock up in 3rd gear as it should? Say at about 36-40 Mph with light throttle?
If it does than it should also function for 4th gear... Being that 1st,2nd and 3rd gears work, this should tell us that the solenoids are functioning, There are 2 on off solenoids that control what gear the trans is in via the PCM...
we have seen several 4T65-E'* LD and HD that had the 4th gear splines chewed off, which in turn later destroyed the Converter...
Seth, have you hooked to a scantool yet to see if you are throwing any tranny codes for slip, and or have you looked at the raw data to see what the PCM is trying to do with regaurds to the trans?
Also if the Trans range switch is bad, and you have it in 4th but the PCM is not seing that, it will revert to third with No TCC apply...
So there are several things you need to look at beofre we call the tranny dead... If you find a lot of metal, you'll know the story...

I havent had any Check Engine warnings. and my scan tool is not detailed enough to scan the tranny. I may take it to Aamco to see if they can scan it.
Bill can you explain the TPS? I cant see how that would effect shifting unless it was really messed up. Wouldnt it effect every gear, not just 4th?

A TPS will primarily prevent TCC lockup if it has a dead spot or an internal short. The TPS enhancement mod itself can explain this.
With the TPS enhanced, a very light touch on my 93'* throttle will unlock the TCC, where on the 95, I use about 1/4 throttle before that happens. It'* very touchy.
I've had failed TPS'* cause OD problems on my 94 Suburban and my 93 a couple years ago.

Well, Aamco didnt find anything wrong on their scan. So the most likely culprit is 4th gear splines got chewed off. I've been waiting for an excuse to beef up the tranny, now I have it.
Already been talking to Todd about what to get.

Trannys seem to be the thing lately. Mine took a long time to lock up before it went, was actually using 3rd on the highway...not really exceeding 60-65 mph, but i had really no choice..it was between gears non stop, slipping like crazy. Now it connects like crazy, shifts like crazy, and goes into OD like crazy.
Worth it.
