New User-Radio Question
New user in Las Vegas with 1997 SSEi. I'll get the details up when I can.
The backlight display in my radio (AM,FM,CD) is out. Can anyone tell me if it is user serviceable or will I need to takeit to a repair facility? Thanks. :?:

Welcome to the forum NV!
I can't help you myself, however, if you do a search on the top right of this page, enter "Radio" in your criteria, you should find a thread that deals with this. I believe that the DeathRat answered that question for someone else. (If I recall correctly, he said that the bulbs could be replaced--but since I have never had that problem, I was just skimming through that post.)
Good Luck and keep us informed.
Nice car!

Hey, welcome to the forum! :P
Your right 95BonnevilleSESC. There is a bulb behind the display. I have a tape deck at home apart for the same thing. I wasn't able to find the bulb at the dealer. They said I would need to find an approved service shop for the factory radios to get the part. Since I don't use the radio I haven't looked for a shop yet. It is actually pretty easy to get to. Just take off the face plate of the radio (the front board comes with it) and pull off the top circut board. It is plugged in to the underside of that. It'* not as bad as it sounds.

Thanks for all the help and ideas. I have located a Delco repair shop that will sell me the bulb, but I may try the solder idea instead if I can locate a suitable bulb.

Update.
After deciding not to pay the nearly $10.00 the delco place wanted for the bulb, I spent about 30 minutes to r&r the radio and soldering a $1.30 bulb from Radio Shack in place. Works great and it'* simple for anyone with basic soldering skills.

I had this problem with my radio while the car was under warrantee. It took GM 8 months to find me a replacement radio. The only other option they had was to send mine back while leaving a hole in my dash for a couple of weeks.
