Definantely a UIM failure. There is supposed to be nothing there. The tube in the UIM is the PCV tube that carries over from where the PCV valve is located. You are doing your LIM gaskets, right? And I see someone already switched to green coolant.

On the money..
This is a an area of air. Nothing should be there, when you try and remove it.. remember the "secret" hidden bolts in the front driver side and rear passenger side of the manifold. Currently they are submerged.

When you assemble the new UIM, make sure that pcv tube is installed like this one: (Thanks, Arbelac.)
Here'* what it does: (Thanks, agrazela.)
Finally, make sure there is one (not two) o-ring on the bottom of the pcv valve when you install it in the new UIM. A larger o-ring seals the pcv valve chamber.

He said make sure you DON'T have two. In other words: Make sure there'* only one on the PCV valve and not another one in the UIM. Some people have replaced their PCV valve and have installed the new O-ring on top of the existing O-ring still in the UIM
