Used felpro on mine as the metal GM was not available at the time and my original gm'* looked worse than that. So far so good. She never uses coolant.

Yep, they're supposed to, and many time do just that. If you're one of the people who have a leak develop at the O-ring, you're likely going to want to give it a little "help" the next time you do one.

If you use RTV, it will add life to the o-rings on the elbow. Many coolant leaks develop here. RTV will lube the install, and seal against possible leaks. This is a 'best practice' developed here on this Forum for good reason.

Alright, how much do you put on? Do you back it up all the way to the flange?

A 1/8" bead all the way around the o-ring, on the side that will enter the LIM or bracket FIRST. So the insertion forces it into the O-ring grooves of the elbow.
