The old mechanic doesn't sound trustworthy... Did he check your air condtioner system for leaks before adding freon ?? Cause if there'* a leak..you just wasted your money.. is there any airflow when the AC is on?? it could be a gunked up condensor ( or that thingie with the fins.. and no.. not the radiator.. but similar.. damm hooked on phonics.. can't remember the name of that part ). What happens when the car is in idle ?? Does it seem to hesitate as if it'* choking.. or is it like starving..

He said that there were no leaks...I guess it was almost full when he added to it. It blows out warm air if it blows out air at all. The best word I can come up with is the car sounds like it is stuttering. Kind of like it doesn't want to catch, then when it does it just well...stutters. Coughing almost. And it doesn't seem to just flat out die either, kind of just fades out.

So did this problem just all the sudden start one day or was it originally fine and it got a little worse over time?

and does it run ok at highway speeds? A restriction in the intake, exhaust, or fuel flow would normally cause it to have a lose of power at higher rpm'*.

I know I ask too many questions and not enough answers, but we'll get this figured out yet.

Questions are good...that'* the only way to figure out what'* wrong. Okay, one day it wouldn't start the first time I tried, but the next time it started right up. About a week later it all of a sudden started doing what it does now. I don't know if the two things are related, it could have just been cranky the one day. It runs fine at highway speeds. It has great acceleration. It seems just fine any other time, it'* just a fight to get it started and running.

Hmmm...I keep thinking that the plugs and wires were all checked recently. I can check them again though. What exactly would I be looking for? Is it really obvious when something is wrong with them? Bear with me, I'm still learning.

Actually, I had a similar problem not to long ago now that I think of it. I had cleaned my engine and had gotton the middle coil wet (yea, I know, don't say it! ) I had harder starts and a real rough idle, but that'* what happens when you run on 5 1/2 cylinders!

I'm thinking fuel flow problem...

What happens if you press the accelerator a bit immediately after you start the car? If you turn the car 'on' first (not so far that it turns over, but enough so the power comes on and the fuel pump whirs), wait a second, then turn the engine over, what happens?

Does the MIL (malfunction indicator light, a.k.a. service engine soon) light up?

You have a '95, so the computer is still OBD I; therefore, you are able to pull codes without a computer. I don't remember exactly which pins to jumper, but I can look them up tonight.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. When it'* trying to start, right after it dies, the little engine symbol lights up and it says check gauges. When the ignition is just turned on for a second then started it will run a little longer, long enough to put it in gear. When you tap the accelerator it seems to rev a lot more than it should. It sounds like I'm getting ready to peal out or something.
