Yes its because your car is special...Lol maybe your car just likes you a lot so it puts up with having the MAF removed. You wouldn’t believe what my car put'* up with.

I was being serious...I havn't noticed any change what so ever...complinitor, I also run 91-94 ocane gas...whatever is the best they have at the station i'm at. Idle is completely normal, RPMs are exactly the same. Even when I first started it after taking it out.
Why would it affect some of your cars, but not mine or complinitor'*??
What year/motor do you have, complinitor?

Thanks to the advice on this glorius website, I took off my MAF screen and everything was positive. More power, same or better gas mileage, no difference in idle.
Then I opened my airfilter box and removed the big plastic plate blocking the filter. That also seemed to help.
Removing the screen has to help with power because air can flow through easier.
Answer me this: How on earth could removing the screen damage the sensor? It'* the same air that was flowing in before.

Keep in mind if you're running an aftermarket filter, K&N or similar, DO NOT over-oil it. We've had a couple smoked MAF sensors because of this.
And as far as Tamara is concerned, careful dude. She belongs to ALL of us!

I agree with WILLWREN, on re-oiling of filters... I have it on my 89 Cavalier Z24, and it gunked up my IAC sensor/valve. $180 Canadian later
. Another key thing is also to allow ample of drying time, and always get some cloth or paper towel to wipe the filter down before actual re-install to ensure that any excess oil is absorbed in the rag.. not in the car
Removing the MAF screen will not damage the sensor.. unless you left a few metal flakes in there by accident, or dirt and crap because your filter crapped out. The MAF screen then becomes a secondary filter.. but then that'* kinda like saying "What If" I have a Civic, and I want to race Bonnies... not going to happen. ( unless you have that much time and money to spend into it.. in which case.. why didnt you just simply start by buying a real car.. ha ha ha .. personal preference ).

One thing I thought of while reading Drifter'* comments on the 'secondary' or 'what if' filter, is that if you have your oil changed at a Jiffy Lube kinda place, sometimes they pull the airbox open to make sure your K&N sticker isn't lying. If they induce a piece of crud into the plenum when they open the box, something hanging out in the gap of the lid, it'll get in there. If you're running without a MAF screen, I wouldn't let anyone else open the box but yourself. One little turd could ruin your whole day.
