Doesn't matter which pipe is in it. The kit comes with a smaller stovepipe.
And..I would call Ed Morad directly. He'* a great guy. 216-798-6902

Bill is right that the APN kit comes with a smaller sleeve, but if I recall correctly the smaller LIM pipe fits the kit better without an adaptEr.

If you have a 99 and want the same LIM, you need the one with the smaller EGR bore. EGR bore 95-98 was .750" 99-05 was .625". The APN kit will come with a pipe that measures about .500" with a base that is about .749" That pipe is made to fit the older LIM directly. APN figures with a sleeved upper, that the stock .625" stovepipe in the 99 and newer LIMs provides a sufficient gap with the sleeve to make a good repair, and they are right. That is, after all, the same gap that GM provides from the factory with NO heat shield to protect the UIM. I like the idea of an even larger gap when I can get it, so, I recommend that owners of 99 and newer cars buying the APN kit, arrange to take the stovepipe to a machine shop and have the .749" base turned down to .624" so they can benefit from the same larger insulating gap (about .125") that the 95-98 guys get.
I wish I had both the newer and older LIMs to compare. I am pretty sure they are interchangeable, as I have spoken with GM service techs who have replaced the older LIMs on 95-98s with the newer ones just to get the smaller stovepipe. (Can you imagine that they would change out a $200 + part for a stovepipe!) So, I am pretty sure that the new LIM will fit on the older engines, and I would suppose that the older would fit on a new one, too. If it would, you could buy the older LIM and the APN pipe would drive right into the EGR bore. I would hate to advise this and have you find some difference in the older LIM that would prevent its use on the newer engines.
Can I ask, why are you replacing the LIM? Is your old one badly pitted where it mates with the cylinder heads?

Thanks much for all your help. I Love this site. Will have the .749" base turned down to .624". Will post pics of my bonnie as weather turns for the better here. Longest winter in a long time here in SE Wisconsin. You guys are great. Thanks for all the advice and help. Will be much more asked as I tear into mods in near future. Hope you're all on board. The ***** of it is I am a journeyman machinist who gave up his trade 6 years ago due to downsizing. Now have to look for someone I can trust who has access to a shop. Thanks again.

Bill,
Sorry, I read over your post to quickly. I am looking at getting another LIM due to recent posts I have read here about porting the LIM for better flow. In another topic I posted regarding great "butt dyno" gains I received by porting the IM I had on my type1 GTI I had back in my pocket rocket days. More flow is always good as long as it is supported with other mods. That is my plan. That is also why I want to get one from a boneyard. Would rather play around with a differnet LIM than my own in case of.....an OOPS. Of course I will wait on further testing of the aforementioned LIM installs to see if it is worth the while. Here is a list f the mods I have planned: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=73160
In your professional opinion, would these mods benefit by a ported LIM?
By the way, ehy was this topic moved? I am new here and still trying to learn the ropes. Thanks.

OK, that makes sense. Probably the topic was moved because we handle most LIM/UIM questions in this forum. Re the mods. willwren, Boosty, others know this stuff well. I'm lucky to keep my old stock stuff running

I didn't move your topic, but I'd expect your topic was moved by one of our excellent Moderators as it was more mechanical in nature, and you didn't state your performance intent.
I suggest you start a new topic in P/B WHEN you're ready to start work on your LIM.
ZillaMotorsports has spoken.
