Key stuck in ignition...shifter will not shift.
Will a 92-95 console swap to a 98? shiftboot looks the same to me but I did not compare in detail.
My shifter is broken and is "worn out" in at least 2 different ways that I've identified so the whole unit needs to be replaced. A repair by the previous owner only made the problem worse.
first of all the button does NOT push down without MASSIVE force second the little assembley at the base is sticking so the key does not come out of the ignition. I have to un-jam it everytime and that takes a lot of effort.
also is the shiftboot just glued to the bottom? mine came undone
how do I adjust it to see if that will fix it?

potato dumplings.......
the problem you describe is not the shifter being worn out....the shifter is simply out of adjustment....i had this problem with my 93, hard button, and key sticking
you need to adjust the cable that connects the shifter to the transmission. the adjustment point is on the shifter bracket, and is a round clip that pulls out, and lets the shifter cable move back and forth
and NO the console will not fit the newer car....the gear selector mounts totally different, and you have no prayer of it fitting properly

I'll try adjusting though and report back.

in the pic above....
the shifter with the metal clip, that is the cable that runs to the top of the transmission
the other cable is the cable that runs to the Park/Shift interlock on the steering column
