Here ya go. I didn't notice anything suggesting coolant infiltration when I had it torn apart. Here is the pics. The UIM was starting to cook but not through.

Check the Harmonic Balancer .... If thats fine, then you have lost your bottom end...
I am almost doubtful you would have made it 50 miles as bad as that noise was

It would be soooo nice if that was only your HB. When I heard my failing HB for the first time I thought the motor was blown too (sounded like a knock), until only 2 seconds later when I calmed down and remembered what the noise was. If this was your HB it'* REALLY bad, especially since the noise usually goes away while driving.

It depends on how much of the rubber is busted... If it fractured/Tore all the way around and has no resistance it will bounce of the stops like mad.... Keep in mind it is weighted... And the outer part of the balancer uses a roller bearing of sorts...
When you spin a bearing, the bearing is going to get extremely hot... In most cases the bottom end will lock up... Even with the noise the engine revs too free and easy, it seems to have no hard spots, not even at idle.... If he spun a bearing or bearings in the bottom end I do not think he would have made the 50 mile trip..
But then again... We have seen the stranger happen...
Wonder if he has any updates for us

I'm skeptical on the bottom end being bad. If this motor was up to temp for 50 miles of driving and stayed above the 40psi of oil pressure...hmmm When a bearing goes, the first symptom is oil pressure, even before the knocking starts.

1 rod can only make soo much noise at a given time... I have seen a hand full of people actually mistake a Dampener for a Rod... And in his case I hope thats what it is..

Hey gentleman. Just got home from work. Will look into her within the next couple hours. About the ride home........Sometimes for a moment it would go away. Obviously was getting worse as I drove. Will keep you posted. See you around 7 pm my time(SE WIS).
