Just bought 97 SSEi, what are the common problems
I just bought a 97 SSEi from a dealer on EBAY with 50,000
miles. I am bringing it in tomorrow, 07/26/05, for a once-over by my
mechanic. It was driven minimally by a person in Florida so it'*
clean.
What should I have them focus on as I do not have any maintenance
records assuming the lack of use and hot climate?
Also, both the performance and touring ride button lights are lit up at
same time with very poor ride quality at high speed, any ideas?
Lastly can a person program their own keyless entry with this car or is
a dealer needed?
Thanks in advance,
-Jason

Nice choice............
Performance and touring ride lights both on at the same time. That is an indication that the struts are gone. I've got a '99 SSEi and the same thing is going on with mine right now. The CCR system is/was one of the worst ideas that was conceived.
Monroe struts are mostly the replacement of choice around here. willwren can give alot more info than most of us can.
Let'* get this over with now..............

There'* quite a few members with the 97'*. ssesc, sonoma... and a few others.
So far I haven't had many issues...things for the mechanic to check
Struts..and air leveling in the rear struts (sounds like your fronts need replacement)
I've done the typical tune up, but really haven't had anything to mention....oh the vacuum connection for the evap/charcoal canister under the airbox is usually rotted and broken. it'* not even a dollar fix.
