Just kidding. Couldn't get away with it. I serve on a Commission with the local PD. Strategic Planning, in my spare time. Funny story about the APD.....one of the detective'* cars is a 2001 SSEi. Seized in a drug raid, pressed into service. Lucky stiff. What a ride to be in all day around town! Puts all those Crown Vics to shame. I forgot to check the tires on that car. I'll do that next time. Bet they ain't stock, eh?

I'm having the same problem. Most noticable in the morning. Smoke is coming from the right side of the hood. no smell, but my climate control system stopped working. No A/C or heat will blow when you turn on the climate control system. When you turn on the A/C it makes a wierd whirring/slighty squecky noise. Any thoughts on what the problem is. By the way this is just the latest problem in what has become a long list of things that have gone wrong with this 97 SSEi. I am seriously considering getting rid this car. I just can't tolerate much more going wrong with what I thought was going to be a fun, fast gadget filled car. :(

Is this normal? When the AC compressor/clutch fails, you get NO air out? I hope this isn't true.....but if it is, at least you can get parts from the junkyard....any H body will do. I'm gonna look this up, but has anybody else experienced the same thing?

Blue, you may be lucky. Look back to page one of this thread. jgssei has a similar problem and gets NO air out. Maybe there'* a difference in the climate control between yours and a 97. Have you checked prices on www.gmpartsdirect.com or a wrecking yard yet?
