Idle idle or wacky tach?
I've got what I think may be a weird anomoly with the tach my '94 SE NA.
It hot idles at 1000 on the tach (my wife'* '98 SE NA hot idles at 750). I was wondering about that disparity so I started comparing the tach readings on both.
Weird thing is that when I turn off the '94, the tach stays at 1000 with the engine off until I switch the ignition back to "on" position again when it drops to about 250.
On my wife'* '98 the tach rests well below the "0" mark whenever the ignition is switched off.
When both are side by side at hot idle they sound and feel the same.
I was wondering if the tach on the '94 is whacked and the 1000 rpm reading is actually 750 plus the 250 offset from when it'* at rest?
If so is there a way to adjust/zero the tach?
BTW, we just got my wife'* '98 back from having the intake manifold replaced for coolant leak and EGR port warpage. Ouch!

Years ago, just prior to me installing a new cluster, the SSE showed an idle of about 750 RPM. Because my fuel gauge and oil pressure gauges started going south at the same time I replaced the old cluster with a reman ($110 as I remember). After that I noticed that the 1dle was about 1000 RPM. I'm betting your cluster is goofed up. My 2 cents.

Re Wacky Tach:
First check your connector at the back of the cluster. It'* known to loosen off with road vibration.
Second, if you've got a remote start installed, check the Tach Signal wire from the Ign Module. This is the wire that 99% of the people tie into to send a signale to the remote starter module to let it know when the car is running.
