Default I Went To Check The Oil This Morning....

I see antifreeze laying on the transmission. So I pull off the heat shield and I see fluid all around the upper intake. I pull the oil dip stick and everything looks good. So at 85K the intake finally went.

My questions for everyone...I want to do this myself to save some money and to learn about my car.

1. Are there any tutorials on the web about how to do this?
2. How long should it take? (I've never done this before)
3. What part numbers do I need?
4. The best place to buy them.

Thank you

if there was coolant on the trans....are you sure that you dont have a TB gasket leak

how does your overflow bottle look...full??

the UIM failures dont leak on the outisde of the car.....its the gaskets and around the EGR stove pipe....i dont think u have a UIM failure

with your average UIM failure there would also be coolant in the oil as well as coolant in the cylinders...pull your plugs(at least the front ones) and look for evidence of coolant(sight, smell, yada yada)

im also inclined to believe that this is something besides an UIM failure.

but its good preventative maintenance to replace it anyway.

I will take some pics today so you all can see it. The oil does not smell or look bubbly, but it did get very dirty real fast over the past 3 miles.

Described a throttle body gasket to me as well.

Dry the area up, ensure the cooling system is full and start it up getting up to pressure. Carefully looking for leaks. I'd bet you only see coolant leaking from between the throttle body to intake. Then it runs along and ends up on top of the intake.

Since you have fluid all along the front of the engine, below the UIM, I'm willing to bet that your gasket on the UIM failed.

You might as well change the UIM, UIM gasket, and lower intake gaskets. It'* about a 4-5 hour Saturday job. A Chilton'* manual is a MUST. I've done it twice on my 99. Second time around I had the job done in about 3.5 hours.

Advance auto sells the upgraded gaskets and Dorman UIM. Or, you could buy the improved GM gaskets.

Honestly...

I'd clean it and ensure I know where that leak is coming from. Could very easily be like Vital says...

I'd want to be sure before doing work.

With that much coolant around the UIM, I'd have to go with the UIM gasket failure also. But like Boosty says, clean it up first to make sure, then look carefully for the source of the coolant leak. Nice pics, btw. Visual representation is a powerful tool.
