Default I think a torque converter problem??

Hopefully this isn't a repeat. I searched around for a similar problem, but couldn't find it so here it goes:

I've got a wicked knock somewhere in the transmission. It ususally happens on the low end of 3rd gear (around 1500 rpm). I guess the best way to describe it is that it sounds like a rock in a coffe can wrapped in a blanket... (i've been thinking for a long time the best way to describe it and i think that is it.) I've also noticed recently that if i'm in a harder acceleration around a corner that i loose power...kind of like it slips out of gear or something. The transmission seems to shift fine and i don't have any problems like that on a straight away, just around a corner.

Does this sound like it is probably the torque converter?

I did have a check engine light come on about 2 months ago and i took it to a mechanic to read the code. The light was for another problem, but he said he also read a torque converter code. He said it wasn't recent, but i might have to have it looked at.

Default update

Quick update to my first post: I just got down to my girlfriends place and on my way my "Traction Off" light came on and wouldn't go off. It used to do this a lot about 2 years ago, but i haven't had a problem with it since...until just today. Ideas?? Thanks

I'm not sure, but this might also indicate a bad harmonic balancer.

What is your transmission fluid level like?

Harmonic balancer is most apparent at idle...the rattle goes away with revs.

my fluid was just a little low. I topped it off, but still having the same problems.

Any ideas? I need to go get it flushed, but i don't think it will help with the knock.

Over fill the trans buy a 1/2 qt or so...and see if your corner acceleration issues disappear or not...

The light isn't on anymore. When it used to do it a lot all i would do is turn the car off and let it sit for a while and when i started it back up the tc would be on again. This was the first time in a while that it started to do it again. I don't know if it'* a sensor or what and it'* kinda hard to recreate it since it seems to be random.

I thought it was really bad to over fill it. I know it is for oil, but i thought it was the same for the tranny?? I'll do it, i'm just wondering the thought process behind it...

They underrate the dipsticks on our tranny'* for a "Saftety", so you can't over fill it, and have a margin to go a lil over. But when you corner hard, these trannys are notorious for having the fluid run away from the pump and make the trans slip.
