Relevant note: apparently the speed sensor is serviceable apart from the rest of the hub/bearing/speed sensor assembly, meaning that it can be R&R'ed. See page 5E2-85 (ABS and TCS --> Electronic Components --> Wheel Speed Sensors) of the 1995 GM Service Manual. But I doubt that people do it separately.

I didn't find the speed sensor at O'Reilly'* website and didn't look beyond there. I did see something called an ABS speed sensor, but it doesn't seem to be the same thing.
Guessing that the only way to ruin the speed sensor is to rip the wires loose, except when my speed sensor and its housing stayed with the knuckle during removal of the assembly, a rubber seal was also torn open, so I don't think I accidentally found a good way to remove the sensor.
